一入耳根 永為道種

​有一次兒子問母親：「媽媽，最近有沒有去佛堂上課？」母親肯定地回答說：「當然有了。」兒子說：「講師講了什麼內容呢？」母親想了想，卻想不起講師到底講過什麼，
但是她說：「雖然一時記不起來，但是我覺得對我很有幫助。」

​兒子笑她說：「聽完之後連內容都忘記了，哪裡會有幫助？」母親聽兒子這麼說，就拿起一個舊的籐籃，對他說：「幫我做一件事，拿這個籃子到水龍頭那裡，替我接滿水。」

​兒子大笑說：「我不會笨到那樣吧？這個籃子怎能裝水呢？」母親說：「你說得對，它是不能裝水。但是，當水從籃子裡流過之後，一定會把籃子上的污垢洗掉，對不對？」兒子這才明白母親的意思。

​我們去佛堂聽課，有時也會把內容忘記，當我們用心去聽的時候，心念已經得到潔淨，就像水洗淨籃子一樣，洗滌我們的心靈，因緣成熟的時候，這些善的種子就會發芽，幫助我們處事圓滿。

Once heard mindfully, always a seed for the Tao within.

Once, a son asked his mother, "Mom, have you been attending Tao classes at the temple recently?" Mother answered firmly "Of course I have been."
Son asked "What did the speakers say?"

​Mother tried to recall some contents but could not remember anything. She said, "I can't recall any at the moment, but I feel the classes are very helpful."

​Son teased her, "How could it be helpful at all if you cannot even remember anything from the classes?" Upon hearing this, the mother picked up an old basket made of vine and said to her son, "Do me a favour. Take this basket to the faucet and fill it up with water."

​Son laughed. "How could I be so silly? How could this basket hold any water?" Mother answered, "You are right. This basket cannot hold any water. However, when water passes through the basket, it can definitely take dirt off the basket, does it not?" The son finally understood what his mother was telling him. 

Sometimes, we might forget the contents from the sessions after attending Tao classes at the temple. When we listen mindfully, our thoughts are being purified and our heart cleansed, just like water washing the basket. When the conditions ripen, the seeds of kindness will begin to germinate and help us to smoothen all dealings in our lives.

一旦耳に入るものは永遠に道の種になる

​ある時、息子が母親に「お母さん、最近仏堂に勉強会を参加しに行ったことある？」と聞いた。母は「もちろんあるわよ」と肯定的に答えた。息子は「講師がどんな話をしたのか」と言った。母親は考えたが、講師が何を話していたのか思い出せなかった。しかし、彼女は「すぐには覚えられないが、私のためになると思う」と話した。

​息子は、「話を聞いた後、内容まで忘れたのに、どこが役に立つのか」とからかった。息子に言われて、母は古い籐籠を手に取り、「仕事を一つ手伝ってくれて、この籠を蛇口に持っていって、水を満たしてくれて」と言った。

​息子は大笑いして言った。「私はそんな馬鹿なことをしないよ。このかごにどうして水を入れることができるの?」「そうだね。水を入れることはできない。でも、かごから水が流れたら、必ずかごの汚れを落とすよね」息子はやっと母の意味がわかった。

​私達は仏堂に勉強会を参加しに行って、時には内容を忘れてしまう。私達が心を持って聞いている時、心はすでにきれいになって、水洗いしてかごを浄めるように、私達の念頭を浄めて頂く。因縁が熟した時、これらの善の種子は発芽して、私達に円満に物事を成し遂げることを助けてくれるのだ。
